Semi-coke, a new carbon material, boasts broad application prospects in various fields, including metallurgy, chemicals, power generation, and civilian fuels, thanks to its low sulfur, low ash, and high calorific value. As a key component of clean coal utilization, the semi-coke industry is undergoing a qualitative transformation from a traditional fuel to a green material and energy carrier amidst China's energy restructuring and deepening environmental protection policies.
Semi-coke production technology is evolving from traditional, traditional coking to large-scale, clean production. The widespread adoption of dry coke quenching technology, intelligent control systems, and comprehensive utilization of by-products (coal gas and tar) has significantly reduced energy consumption and pollution. For example, Inner Mongolia Zhengneng Chemical has increased its unit gas power generation capacity through a coal-fired power generation project, reducing annual carbon dioxide emissions by over one million tons. However, small and medium-sized enterprises still face funding pressures for environmental protection upgrades, and some outdated production capacity is being phased out due to its inability to meet the requirements of the "Semi-coke Industry Clean Production Evaluation Index System."
Semi-coke's application scenarios have expanded from traditional metallurgy and chemicals to high-end manufacturing and civilian clean energy. In the steel industry, semi-coke can reduce carbon emissions as a blast furnace fuel injection. In calcium carbide production, it replaces traditional coke, improving product quality. In the civilian sector, semi-coke is rapidly gaining popularity in northern heating regions as a substitute for loose coal. Furthermore, emerging fields such as battery anode materials and activated carbon preparation are in the technology incubation stage and hold enormous potential.
